Why can’t I upload a file when testing a Copilot agent?

File upload availability can depend on the Copilot experience, your Microsoft licence, your organisation’s settings and the file itself.

What to try

  1. Check that the file format is supported by your version of Copilot.
  2. Confirm that you have permission to open the file and that it is not password-protected or restricted.
  3. Try a smaller or less complex version of the file.
  4. If the upload control is not available in the agent test pane, save the agent and test it from a Copilot chat where file upload is available.
  5. If the agent uses SharePoint or OneDrive knowledge, confirm that the source is connected and that you can access it.

Microsoft manages this feature, so PAIR cannot enable file upload or change your Copilot licence. For a work or education account, contact your Microsoft 365 administrator if the problem continues.

Check Microsoft 365 Copilot’s supported file formats.

Only upload information that your organisation permits you to use with the tool.
